AJ Bernys is a 20 year old student at the University of Northwestern Ohio. AJ has always been one to push himself and his team for improvement. One of AJ’s biggest accomplishments comes from having won at least one race in every full season series he has competed in. however, It is not always the finishes that matter. AJ has said “I don’t judge how well we do by where we finish; I judge the race by if I’d want to watch it in the stands.”

In 2000 at the young age of five, AJ began his career in quarter midgets. Through 2007 he made his mark as the kid to beat scoring over 100 wins and 5 track championships. In 2009 AJ switched surfaces to dirt at the Oswego Kartway in a Champ Kart. He won two more races in 2010.

At the end of the 2010 season AJ moved on to a Small Block Supermodified at the historic Oswego Speedway. He made his debut at the biggest race of the year, the Budlight Classic 100 where he earned the achievement of hard charger. AJ would land his first win at the “Big-O” in 2012 in the second largest race of the year, earning himself the title of “2012 Mr. Small Block Supermodified”. A second win would come opening night of 2013.

In 2014 AJ made the move to dirt, driving four races in a stock car for the University Of Northwestern Ohio. Although he struggled some with learning the new surface, he quickly showed that he could adapt to any environment. He scored a B-main win his first night out as well as multiple top 10 finishes.

In 2015 AJ had the opportunity to drive a big block ISMA Supermodified at the Oswego Speedway. AJ surprised the competition by turning competitive lap times his first time on the track; an almost unheard of accomplishment. He would also make his return to the small block class at Oswego where a limited schedule started him at the rear each week. He still managed to pull off multiple top 10 finishes.

AJ has never been one to settle into a class or series; he is always looking for that next big thing. He enjoys pushing his abilities and learning different cars and tracks. “It doesn’t take much skill to win at the same track, and the same series every week. I’d rather be the guy that can get into anything, anywhere…and win.”
